For skin that has spent years on the water. Corrected across a winter, then protected properly.
Photodamage here comes with a local variable: salt air dehydrates while year-round UV pigments. The correction is staged — Lumecca IPL for discrete spots and vessels, MOXI for diffuse tone and texture, peels to maintain, and antioxidant skincare with daily SPF. Best started in October.
Sun does what sun does anywhere — pigment, elastin breakdown, broken vessels — but here it does it without a winter off. UV levels stay meaningful nearly year-round, and light reflecting off the harbour and off pale stucco adds exposure that patients never account for. Twenty years of that is visible.
Salt air is the local addition, and it is dehydration rather than pigmentation. Salt pulls moisture from the skin surface; combined with wind on the water and sun overhead, the barrier stays compromised, and a compromised barrier makes fine lines and rough texture considerably more obvious. It is why lifelong boaters here look weathered in a specific way.
Both are correctable to a real degree. IPL clears the brown spots and vessels, MOXI restores diffuse tone and texture, and peels hold the ground between. What is not correctable is the elastin already lost — which is the argument for starting the moment you notice, and for never again leaving the house without sunscreen.
Discrete sun lesions across cheeks, nose and hairline. The fastest result with IPL.
Diffuse unevenness that photographs as a dull cast. MOXI territory.
Fine vessels at the nose and cheeks, collapsed with IPL.
Dehydration-driven crinkling, worst on those who spend time on the water.
Poikiloderma from open collars — often more revealing than the face.
Rarely protected, quickly aged, and very responsive to IPL and peels.

We are happy to correct twenty years of damage. We are not interested in doing it twice because nobody discussed sunscreen with you seriously.
Photographs under standardised light, and an honest read on what is correctable and what is not.
A Lumecca IPL series — three to five sessions — for discrete spots and vessels.
A MOXI series — three to four sessions — for diffuse tone and texture.
Antioxidant skincare, daily SPF, and seasonal peels to hold the result indefinitely.
Members choose a signature treatment each month with member pricing across the laser menu — which is how most patients run an IPL and MOXI plan through a single winter.
Brown spots and mottled tone, a leathery or crepey texture, broken capillaries, deeper lines than your age would suggest, and a general loss of clarity. On the chest and neck it shows as mottled red-brown discoloration.
A great deal of it, yes. Pigment and texture respond well to resurfacing and light. What cannot be undone is the underlying elastin damage, which is why prevention from here forward matters as much as correction.
It is dehydrating. Salt draws moisture from the skin surface and, combined with wind and sun on the water, leaves the barrier compromised — which accelerates fine lines and makes everything else look worse. Boaters and beach walkers here show it clearly.
A combination. Lumecca IPL clears discrete brown spots and vessels, MOXI improves diffuse tone and texture, and peels maintain both. Most patients do best with IPL and MOXI in sequence across a winter.
October, so you can complete a series before the following summer. Resurfacing and IPL both require sun avoidance, which is realistic here between October and April and unrealistic in July.
The pigment we clear does not return, but new damage accumulates if exposure continues. Daily broad-spectrum SPF is what determines whether you are correcting once or correcting every few years.
Yes — and they are often more revealing than the face, because nobody applies sunscreen there consistently. All three respond well to IPL and peels.
